What the social links checker does
This tool scans a webpage and extracts links to social media platforms, then lists the social links it finds. It gives you a quick view of which networks the page connects to and where those links point.
Social links commonly appear in headers, footers, author bios, and contact sections. They usually point to profile pages on platforms such as X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, or YouTube. They help visitors follow the brand, share content, or reach the team through another channel.
Why reviewing social links matters
Social links are part of the trust signals around a site. A broken or outdated profile link can send visitors to a page that no longer exists or to a profile that has been abandoned. Reviewing them ensures that every link is current and points to the right account.
The set of links also reveals how consistent the brand presence is. Linking to five profiles that are all active is different from linking to a dozen accounts, half of which are inactive. Consistency helps users find the official profiles and reduces the risk of confusion with impostors.
How to interpret the result
The tool reports the social links it extracted. Check whether the list matches the profiles you expect. Look for links to platforms you no longer use, links to personal accounts that should be official ones, and links that appear in unexpected places such as user-generated content.
Verify that each link loads the correct profile and that the profile is active. A link to a platform homepage rather than a specific profile is usually a mistake. Also check that social links open in a way that is appropriate for your site, and that external links use safe attributes where relevant.
Common social link issues
- Outdated profiles. Links point to accounts that are inactive or renamed.
- Wrong account. Links lead to a personal profile instead of the brand profile.
- Generic platform links. The URL points to the platform home page rather than a profile.
- Inconsistent placements. Social links appear in one template but are missing from another.
- Missing security attributes. External links opened in new tabs should use rel attributes for safety.
Practical workflow
Review the social links on the homepage, footer, and author pages. Click each one and confirm the destination. Keep the set of linked profiles aligned with your actual channels, and remove links to abandoned accounts. Re-check after template updates, since social link blocks are often edited independently of the main navigation.
Limitations
The checker extracts links it recognizes as social platform links from the HTML response. It does not verify that the destination profiles are active, and it may not catch links added by client-side scripts.
