What the internal links checker does
This tool scans a webpage and extracts links that point to other pages on the same website. It lists the internal links it finds, giving you a view of how the page connects to the rest of the site.
Internal links are navigational and structural. They help users move between related pages and help crawlers discover content. The pattern of internal links across a site forms a graph that influences which pages are easy to reach and which are isolated.
Why internal linking matters
Internal links distribute authority and signal relationships between pages. A page that receives many relevant internal links is easier for crawlers to find and may be treated as more important. Contextual links within content also help search engines understand what the linked page is about.
Good internal linking improves user experience. It lets readers follow a logical path through related topics and find deeper content without searching. It also supports navigation on large sites where menus alone cannot expose every page.
How to interpret the result
The tool reports the internal links found on the page. Review whether they point to relevant destinations and whether the anchor text describes the target. Generic anchor text such as "click here" conveys little, while descriptive text helps both users and crawlers.
Consider the distribution. A page with hundreds of internal links may dilute the value passed to each one, and it can overwhelm users. Navigation and footer links are repeated across pages; contextual links within the main content often carry more weight. Check for links to outdated or redirected URLs, since those waste crawl budget.
Common internal linking issues
- Orphan pages. Pages with few or no internal links pointing to them.
- Generic anchors. Anchor text that does not describe the destination.
- Broken internal links. Links to URLs that return errors or redirects.
- Excessive links. Hundreds of links on a page spreading value thin.
- Inconsistent navigation. Menus that omit important sections.
Practical workflow
Review internal links on key templates and content pages. Add contextual links from relevant pages to important targets, and use descriptive anchor text. Fix broken links and update links that redirect unnecessarily. For large sites, audit orphan pages periodically and connect them from relevant hubs.
Limitations
The checker extracts internal links from the HTML response of the requested page. It does not map the entire site graph, and links added by client-side scripts may not be detected.
